Boat Club winner of Bumper Draw:
Congratulations to Ashok Ramasubbu from the Belfast Boat Club who won the €500 prize in the Junior draw. There was a profit of €2,392 made and many thanks to Junior Secretary, Gerry Connaughton for the hard work done in this venture and to all who bought tickets.

U15 - U17 European Team Championships:
Well done to our teams who played in this event in Budapest. Full results can be accessed (with some difficulty!) from the official tournament site.

All Irelans Schools 2007:
This competition was held in Ballyearl in April and the pics and results can be found on the Schools page.

Under 19s Europeans:
Our inder 19's have travelled to Herentals, Belgium, for the individual event from March 41 - April 3 (Boys results here, and Girls results here) and then on to Brussels for the team event April 5 to 8 (Click here for news).

The team is Gordon Harpur, Chris O'Kane, Seán Caheny, Sarah McCracken and Patricia Burns with coach, Colin Whitney. They were drawn in the same group as Germany, Czech Republic and Scotland. They then played Spain and Israel and finished in 14th. place.

U13 and U15 Home Internationals 2007:
The U13 beat Scotland and finished 3rd. while the U15s finshed in fourth place at the 'Home' Internationals. Below the teams are pictured on the courts in Pontefract.

The Irish Junior Men's Team for the World Championships in New Zealand in August 2006 was Rory Byrne, Conor O'Hare and Chris O'Kane. More details on the World Championships page.

Selection Criteria for U13, !5 and U17 Irish Teams 2006 - 2007:

  1. Players must be eligible to play for Ireland (see Byelaw 7) and be under the relevant age on the final day of the competition and be selected by the selection committee.
  2. Selection committee comprises: The Junior Administrator, The Team Coach, and The Team Manager
  3. Team Selection will be based on the ranking points gained from a player’s best three Provincial Opens and the Irish Junior Nationals in the appropriate age group.(That is, Connacht Open; Ulster Open; Munster Open; Leinster Open; Irish Junior National Closed.)
  4. The Irish Junior Open is a compulsory event but it will not contribute towards ranking points.
  5. If a player is unable to compete in a tournament (or complete all matches over a tournament weekend) due to illness/injury a doctors/physiotherapists certificate/letter must be submitted to Irish Squash.
  6. Fitness & Good Behaviour: To ensure that players maintain the appropriate level of fitness and good behaviour the selection committee will also consider:
    General behaviour on and off court; attendance at squad sessions and commitment to training programme as designated by Team Coach.
  7. As soon as you receive notification of your selection to the team, all monies must be paid by the required date, otherwise you will not be allowed to travel.
  8. NB Players wishing to be selected in two age groups must indicate their intentions before the start of the season in writing to the Junior Administrator c/o Irish Squash office and must play in ALL Provincial Opens and in the older age group of the Irish Junior Nationals. Again the Irish Junior Open will be a compulsory tournament but will not contribute towards ranking points. The Junior Committee will decide in which age group players participate in all tournaments.
  9. Players moving up from one age group to the next will carry over 30% of the points gained at the younger age group.

Players should discuss the above with their coaches/managers and parents so that they are clear on what must be done.

  3. The following tournaments are COMPULSORY for those wishing to be selected during the 2006/07 Season: 1. Irish Junior Nationals; 2. Irish Junior Open; 3. Leinster Junior Open; 4. Irish Senior Nationals
  4. Points will be gained on the junior scale from Irish Junior Nationals and Ulster Junior Open. The points earned at these two tournaments will determine selection. Although a compulsory events, there are no points gained at either the Irish Junior Open or the Irish Senior Nationals.
  5. If a player is unable to compete in a tournament (or complete all matches over a tournament weekend) due to illness or injury a letter or certificate from the doctor or physiotherapist must be submitted to Irish Squash.

Ranking points explained.
The points to be earned in this season's junior tournaments follow the method in use on the Senior Tour.
They are explained in the following table: Players transferring from one age group to another during the season carry 30% of the points already earned at the younger age group.
