Brian Mahon.Convenor of Selectors / Team Manager(s).
Sunday’s Well, Cork. 12th March 2005. (Master's Interprovincial Championships)
Attendance: Eamonn O’Keeffe, Tom Cantwell, Tom Keenan, John O’Connor, Des Connery, Brian Mahon.
Minutes.
Meeting Commenced 7.33 p.m.
~ Minutes of previous meeting distributed and read.
~ Change to the dates of Ladies’ Over 40/45 & Men’s Over 45 / 50 Home Internationals competition to be held in Wales. [B.M.]
New dates: 13th – 14th May, 2005
~ Above change clashes with the dates of the “All Ireland Club Championships”.
Several of the ladies who might be involved in both competitions had earlier sought clarification on this matter. “According to the rules of Irish Squash any player who is on international duty is entitled to reschedule matches in another competition, however all matches must be played in advance.” [J.O’C.]
~ A Men’s Over 65 section was run off at this year’s Irish Open. The committee agreed that a Men’s Over 65 team should represent Ireland at this year’s Home Internationals competition in Nottingham.
~ Last season we managed to raise € 5,500 for the Masters’ Squash fund.
This season we have only € 600 in the “kitty”. A raffle is to be held at the interprovincials’ dinner this evening. A further request for funding will be made to the provincial associations and individual players will, once again, be asked to make a contribution. [J.O’C.]
~ In future it would be helpful if each ranking list produced were dated. [T.C]
~ Final Ranking Lists were produced. (below)
~ B.M. suggested that each selector prior to the commencement of team selection read the “Criteria for International Selection”.
~ A lengthy debate ensued as to whether or not the “Criteria for International Selection” would be followed during the selection process.
~ Due to pressure of time the committee agreed to proceed with the selection of the Over 45/50/55/60/65s so that these selections could be announced at the end of the interprovincials’ dinner. It was further agreed that the meeting would then be adjourned and that the committee would reconvene later in the evening to conclude team selection.
~ Meeting adjourned at 9.30 p.m. (approx.) ~ Meeting reconvened at 11.20 p.m. (approx.)
~ Further full and frank discussion, regarding the “Criteria for International Selection”, continued. A request was made that the matter should be put to a vote and that the convenor of selectors should put forward a proposal.
~ B.M. proposed “the “Criteria for International Selection” as agreed and published should be adhered to in selecting teams”.
~ The committee members voted. Result of vote: In favour: 4. Against: 0. Abstentions: 1.
~ Selection of international teams continued. (below)
~ Letters to be sent to all players selected to represent Ireland in the Home Internationals.

| Ladies Over 50 Men Over 55/60/65 |

~ The team manager is to be the final arbiter in relation to team selection at all international events.

Our aim, once again this season, is that all events will be self-funding.
Fundraising will begin early and continue as the season progresses.
As usual all novel fundraising suggestions will be given due consideration!
Looking forward to seeing you during the coming season.
Yours in squash,
John O’Connor
Masters’ Administrator.
