Senior Squash 2007 - 2008
Please note the following alteration to Irish Squash Bye-Laws
in relation to players who make late withdrawals and/or who fail
to complete competitions:
‘In the event that a player scratches from
a tournament after the draw is made then a two tournament ban is
imposed on the offending player (relevant to both senior and junior).
A one tournament ban and 0 points penalty will be imposed should
a player pull out during the tournament. Either of the above will
not be enforced in the event of a medical cert being submitted.’
This bye-law has effect from January 1, 2007

Noom and Gloom for Mylotte in Final |
|
 |
Ireland's Laura Mylotte will be disapponted with the
outcome of the Bymac Leinster Squash Open having missed out on a
glorious chance to capture her second tour title, losing a tight
final to top seed Orla Noom, three games to one. A tense first game
saw the girls trading shots and tussling for position in the centre
of the court. At 5 points a piece Mylotte took the initiative with
some great driving and closed out the game 9-6. Looking relaxed
and in fine form Mylotte raced to a six nil lead in the second game
and seemed to have the beating of her Dutch opponent. A string of
unforced errors however let Noom back into the game and although
Mylotte had a game ball at 9/8, Noom clinched it 10/9 to tie the
match at one all. Again in the third Mylotte looked in control at
6/4 but could not seem to keep out the errors, losing the third
9-6. Noom then sensed her chance of victory and played some great
squash to close out the fourth and final game 9-6 and with take
the title at Fitzwilliam
Bradley has a Ball in Dublin
Bradley Ball took the Bymac Leinster Squash Open Title
in Dublin after a 3/1 victory over Egypt's Omar Abdel Aziz.
The Fitzwilliam crowd were treated to a hugely entertaining final
with little or no mistakes by either player. Ball was dominant in
the opening game taking it 11/4 but the Egyptian found his rhythm
to take a very close second set 13/11. The pace of the match didn't
drop throughout the course of the 78 minute final and in the third
set with both players under pressure Ball proved the stronger taking
it 11/5.
Aziz came out in the fourth set determined to take Ball the full
distance and had two game balls at 10/8. However two well worked
rallies from the Englishman saw him level the score at 10/10 and
seeing his opponent tire went on to take the game 12/10 and with
it the title. leinster squash president colm andrews and simon byrne
of bymac
In the Men's A section veteran Derek Ryan
recovered from the disappointment of failing to qualify for the
professional event by beating Arthur Gaskin. Gaskin
raced into a two set lead but Ryan called on all his experience
to claw himself back into the match. Having changed the pace of
the game and taking the match to a fifth set Ryan's class proved
too much for the Carlow man. Gaskin will rue the missed chance to
finally beat the eight times Irish National Champion Derek Ryan
and will now until the Irish National Championships in December
for another chance.

Men's National Ranking System and Selection:
For the 2007/2008 season the Men’s Tour will consist of 8
events. Rankings are based on performance in the tour events over
a rolling 12 months, with the number of events that are taken into
consideration dependent on the type of player. To ensure all players
have an equal chance, weightings (multipliers) will be applied to
points gained. The Irish Nationals is a compulsory event
for all players.
Player 1: Top 70 Professional.
Player will be given an automatic Irish ranking based on their PSA
ranking, provided they are within the top 70 on the PSA list on
September 1st 2007. Players must play in the Nationals.
Player 2: Professional 71 –200
Best results from 35% of events played within the last calendar
year, equating to 3 events. A multiplier will be applied - provided
they are ranked between 71 an 200 on the PSA list on September 1st
2007
Player 3: Irish player resident overseas
Best results from 50% of events played within the last calendar
year, equating to 4 events. A multiplier will be applied.
Player 4: Irish resident player
Best results from 65% of events played within the last calendar
year, equating to 5 events. No multiplier will be applied.
Player 4 is used as the standard for determining the multiplier
for other player types. Where there are 8 events the top 5 scoring
events (65%) will be added together for an Irish resident player.
The maximum points achievable is 4000 (1000 for the Nationals and
750 in four other tournaments).
The maximum unweighted points achievable for Player 2 is 2500 (1000
for the Nationals and 750 in two other tournaments). Using the Player
4 score as the baseline, the Multiplier for Player 2 is calculated
as 4000/2500 = 1.6.
Similarly, the Multiplier for Player 1 is 4.0 and for Player 3
is 1.23.
Criteria for Irish Men’s Team selection
Selection is based on the highest ranked players available based
on the rules above. The Selection Committee (currently Senior Convenor,
Ed Dunne; Coach Eoin Ryan and David Ayerst) reserves the right,
in exceptional circumstances, to seek Council approval to select
an alternative player to replace one player selected based on ranking.
Selection for the World teams will be based on the rankings as at
October 23rd 2007 rankings and the Europeans in 2008 will be based
on the rankings as at March 26th 2008.
