Development Squad – December 4th, 5th
Despite the adverse weather conditions this weekend saw the first combined Development and National Squad training session taken by Hadrian Stiff and Paul Bell in Dublin.
Players travelled from The UK, Waterford and Galway to attend the squad and were put through their paces on Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday:
“…The purpose of the Saturday morning session was to demonstrate and teach timing of movement to and from the back corners. Good movement timing brings more control of the ball and the rally… The main area of note was for all players to practice and use more variation of pace from pressure situations. This will help gain more control of the rally and create more attacking opportunities…” Hadrian explained to the players.
National Team Captain Derek Ryan who celebrates his 41 Birthday this month was very quick to express his thoughts after the weekend “…This is the second squad I've done with Hadrian and I found it very helpful. There is real purpose to the content and structure of the training…I think the likes of Sean Conroy, Theo Anderson, Conor O’Shea, etc will gain hugely from his ideas and experience…”
Conor O’Shea was glad he made the journey from Galway “…Coming away from the sessions it felt great to have come up from Galway to benefit from both Paul and Hadrian’s coaching skills. I also came away with some good points and drills to do back home and I am really looking forward to the next squad and the Nationals…”
Hadrian and Paul will be at The Senior National’s later this month watching the top players in action and building player profiles, they will also be attending junior events over the next few months with a view of building future National Squads.
The Development Squad is made up of players who show potential, commitment to playing squash and are willing to work hard, if you wish to improve your game and train with some of the top players in the country with a top level coach please contact Irish Squash on info@irishsquash.com
