Rory Byrne, Conor O'Hare and Chris O'Kane represented Ireland at the U19 Worlds in New Zealand and were accompanied by coach Eddie Murphy. Overall in the team event they won 5 of their 9 matches and must be very pleased with that. They were seeded in 15th spot and finished up one in 14th position.

In the Final, Egypt beat Pakistan 2-1 (Pakistan had championship ball!) and Malaysia beat England 2-1 to finish 3rd..Germany and India finished in 5th. and 6th. place respectively.

Team Event:
On Wednesday they began a round-robin to decide the 13-18 finishing positions and started with a 2-1 win over Japan followed by a 3-0 win against Finland in the afternoon. On Thursday they beat New Zealand 2-1 and Zimbabwe (yes, again!) 3-0 in the evening match. They finished off their championship on Friday goind down 3-0 to the U.S.A.

Pool B Matches:
Ireland, seeded 12 overall, began in Pool B behind Pakistan, India and South Africa and above Zimbabwe. On Monday they lost to Pakistan and India 3-0. On Tuesday they beat Zimbabwe 3-0 and lost to South Africa 2-1. In this tie, Rory Byrne won his match 3-2 and both Conor O'Hare and Chris O'Kane were well in with a chance, both losing 3-1. Individual Event:
Chris O'Kane won the Consolation Plate with a 9/3;9/4;9/7 win against Cameron Jamiesan (NZL). He beat Mathew Durda (AUS) 9/2;9/5;7/9;9/4 in their semi-final match. This followed wins over Luke Gorden (NZL) 9/4;9/0;9/2 and Luke Sims (AUS) 9/1;9/3;9/3.

In the quarter-finals proper, Rory Byrne lost to the top seed from Egypt, Ramy Mohamed Ashour 9/1;9/0;9/1. Ashour won this event two years ago and in winning this year's event against compatriot Omar Mossad 9/1;9/3;9/1 he became the first junior to have retained the title. In the second series of matches Rory Byrne beat Edward Dromgool (NZ) 9/0;9/6;9/1, Conor O'Hare lost to Mohamed Reha (EGY) 9/1;9/0;9/3 and Chris O'Kane lost his plate match against J. Reed Endresen (USA) 5/9;6/9;4/9.
