The Dutch Squash Masters 2011 took place in Amsterdam on 28-30 October 2011.
Ireland had three representatives:
- Neil Stone-Wigg playing in the combined 45+/50+ (Reached the FINAL)
- Gerry O’Neil playing in both the Mens 65+ (came SECOND) and then playing a 70+ match-up (won, for 3rd PLACE)
- Myron Evans playing in both the Mens 70+ (WON) and then playing a 65+ match-up (Lost in the FINAL)
Neil Stone-Wigg and Darren Withey
All three competitors had a successful weekend and as the business-end of the draw kicked in had some very tough games. Neil Stone-Wigg played Darren Withey in the final, an opponent who has represented England for the past 2 years in the 45+ team. The first game was poised nicely at 9-9 before things started to unravel for Neil. Gerry O’Neil came up against Guy Davies in the 65+ category, a very strong player who has spent a lot of his life in South Africa and still had the spring in his step of a springbok! Gerry then comfortably won the 3rd/4th playoff for the combined 65+/70+ with a win over Horst Bauer. Myron Evans won the 70+ section, not letting anyone get any closer to him than a 3-1 scoreline. Myron then met the springbok in the final, and the lob and drop maestro that is Myron failed to get his game plan to cause enough trouble for his opponent!
