Success @ Nordic Junior Open

The Nordic Junior Open, a Super Series event is held in Malmo, Sweden and Irish Squash had 14 Juniors taking part.

Scott Gillanders lost the final of the Nordic Open  3-1 against European No 1 Victor Byrtus. Scott had an amazing tournament
beating European no.2 Yannick Wilhelmi 3-2 in the semi final. Byrtus was a step too far on this occasion after a poor start Scott won a hard fought second game and despite finishing the stronger in the third – he had allowed Byrtus too great a lead – lost 11-  7. The fourth ran away from Scott quickly and he never re-established himself. It was a good performance but a great performance was needed.

Dylan Moran was the other stand out Irish Junior, managing to win all his matches in the Boys U11 category, 3-0. In the final he beat Philipe Georgiev of Bulgaria in the battle for first place, with a convincing 3- 0!

Emma Dineen got to play on the glass court and a podium finish of 3rd in U11’s

This tournament started well for the Irish with 9 players from the 14 Irish players reaching the quarter-finals. Probably unprecedented and demonstrating our strength in depth.
