Cannon Kirk GillenMarkets Irish Squash Open 2024 – Player Preview – Hannah McGugan

Hannah McGugan comes into this year’s Cannon Kirk GillenMarkets under the radar and carrying some terrific form.

Based in Bristol and representing the University of West of England, Hannah was recently part of the team that won back-to-back British Universities and College Sports National League.

Hannah competed on home soil earlier in the season in which she claimed a magnificent Ulster Senior Open title. She also took home a podium position in the Leinster senior open in January.

McGugan went on a brilliant run at the senior national championships in February to claim 3rd spot behind her international teammates, Hannah Craig and Breanne Flynn.

She also played a pivotal role for Ireland in securing gold and promotion to Div 2 of the ESF European Team Championships in Bucharest last weekend.

Hannah also took part in last year’s Cannon Kirk GillenMarkets Irish Squash Open but ultimately succumbed to a R1 defeat. This year she faces Scotland’s world no.90, Alison Thomson, hoping to go step further.
