ESF European Team Championships – Division 1 – Preview

After the senior women’s team took gold in the ESF European Team Championships 2024 – division 3 recently, the men’s team will be hoping to replicate that success, albeit in much tougher company in Division one of the ESF European Team Championships 2024 in Zurich from the 1-4 May.

Ireland are handed a very difficult task against some of Europe’s best when they take on near neighbours, England and Wales, alongside Spain in group A

The team comprises of  Sam Buckley, Oisin Logan, Michael Creaven, Conor Moran and Gavin L’Estrange. Off the back of a super campaign last season, securing promotion to the top tier of European squash, confidence is brimming and the team will fancy their chances at making a splash in Zurich.

Coming off superb individual seasons and having been part of the team that gained promotion, Buckley, Moran and Logan retain their places in the squad for this year’s campaign. They bring vast experience, know-how and form to the ranks. Likewise, L’Estrange and Creaven will bring international experience and superb individual skill sets to an exciting team.

The lads will get their tournament underway on Wednesday when they take on England at 10:30 Irish time. They will be back on court later that evening when they face Spain 15:30 Irish Time. They will conclude the pool stages against Wales on Thursday afternoon at 12:30 Irish time.

It will be an uphill task for the team as they face Europe’s elite but they will take plenty of solace and confidence from their World Team Championship performances earlier in the season.

Sutton’s Eoin Ryan travels with the team as Coach, bringing an abundance of experience and know-how to Zurich for the big stage.
